  1. Full Name: Randall Brown
  2. Stage Name: DJ Kid Clay
  3. Occupation: DJ
  4. Genre: Open Format
  5. Gender: Male
  6. Age: 26
  7. Where did your stage name come from? Everyone always asks me how I came up with my DJ name. It’s funny because I don’t have an amazing story behind it. My middle name is Clayton so I decided to shorten it with ‘Clay’ Adding the ‘Kid’ to the beginning just made the name sound complete which is how I came up with Kid Clay.
  8. Where are you from? I am from Bolingbrook, Illinois which is a suburb outside of Chicago.
  9. Where did you start your career? I started my career in my Uncle’s living room once I got my equipment.
  10. What city do you represent? Chicago, Illinois
  11. What gave you that initial push? Although I still do, I use to watch videos of DJ’s such as QBert, Jazzy Jeff, AM, and Craze (Just to name a few). I was able to do see that they didn’t just play music, they put on a show. From that moment I knew that DJin’ was going to take over my life.
  12. How long have you been in the industry? I have been in the industry for 3 years. I haven’t been in the game as long as most people think. I believe my work ethic and love for music has allowed me to progress at a very fast pace. I know you can never stop learning, so I always continue to research and practice consistently to become a better DJ than I was the day before.
  13. If you had to give a thank-you speech, who would you thank and what would you say? I would thank my Uncle Ed for supporting me and putting up with the loud music, terrible scratching and horrible blends in the beginning. I couldn’t have my equipment at home so if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to practice and develop confidence being behind the tables.
  14. What makes you a softie? N/A
  15. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? It was always a dream of mine to make it to the NBA.
  16. What are three hobbies of yours other than what you do? Playing basketball, watching the NFL on Sundays and going to concerts.
  17. Pepsi or Coke? Pepsi.
  18. Rap or Hip Hop? Depends on how I’m feeling.
  19. House or Dubstep? House.
  20. What do you eat a lot more than anything else? Bacon.
  21. What was the first event you ever played at/put on? The 1st event I DJed was at a bar in Wrigleyville.
  22. What are some of your accomplishments in the field? Guest DJ on Chicago’s #1 Radio Station for Hip-Hop & R&B 107.5.
  23. What makes you different than everybody else in the industry? What makes me different from other DJs is my song selection. As DJ’s we all might have the same music, but I guarantee we all have a unique way.
  24. Do you produce? If so do you prefer performing or producing? I currently don’t produce but something I have already been looking into. I am really looking forward to creating my own remixes.
  25. Who would you love to perform with? DJ Jazzy Jeff & artists such as Kanye West and Jay-Z!
  26. What’s your longterm goal? My longterm goals are to become an International DJ who is also known for his production credits with very established artists in the industry.
  27. When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out? I like to watch ‘Sports Center’ until I fall asleep.
  28. Funniest thing that ever happened at an event? I remember when I was booked to be the closing DJ at a huge event that included performances from artist Jeremih & Will (Day 26). I honestly had very little experience DJing in clubs and was  only familiar with CDJ’s. I remember walking into the venue and noticing the equipment was some Numarks or something and telling myself ‘How do I even use those?’ Long story short, I did a terrible job which could have ruined my career if I let it. I think that event just reminds me how far I have come and how I really didn’t know that much about DJing at that time.
  29. What advice would you give to up and coming artists? I would have to say that you have to realize you can never stop learning. Also no matter how GREAT you become, it’s always important to practice because there is always someone gunning for your spot.
  30. What are your goals for 2013? My goals for 2013 are to spin at various clubs outside of Illinois along with earning a weekly time slot to mix on a radio station.

America’s Most Expensive Home

When you think of your dream home, what do you picture? If you’re thinking a modest 25 acres, 42,500 square feet of living space, including a five-story main house, a two-story guest house and a three-story pool house, you clearly aren’t thinking big enough because that would be describing America’s second most expensive home. Now, if you’re in more of a pinky-up type of mood and refuse to be outspent by any “Jones” family, you may need to look into something more like this mammoth estate:

According to Forbes, the town of Greenwich Conn. is now home to the most expensive house in America. Recently, a home was placed on the market for a 9 digit sum of $190,000,000. Not too shabby, right? If you’re already thinking this is a little too much to spend on a single home–touting about all the poverty in the world, broke college students eating Ramen, thinking that is excessive spending, you clearly haven’t seen all the amenities this property has to offer. Yes, you could have settled for the second most expensive home we mentioned with an asking price of $135 million, but as Forbes explains, this is simply a great buy:

The main house, a French-renaissance mansion, boasts 13,519 square feet of living space including 12 bedrooms, seven full baths and two half baths, a wood-paneled library, an ornate dining room with a tracery ceiling and oak columns, a solarium, a wine cellar, a third-floor staff wing, and a three-story, wood-paneled entry foyer. The original kitchen, equipped with a dumb waiter, sits in the basement, originally part of the staff quarters.

Think about it; wouldn’t it be great to one-up that rich kid who drives your dream car to class everyday? Yes it would. Ain’t nobody got time to be grateful and appreciative when these kind of deals are on the market. Timber tycoon, John Rudey, acquired this 117 year-old estate 31 years ago (built in 1896). Prior to that it was under the ownership of a gentleman by the name of Harriet Lauder Greenway, whose father helped Andrew Carnegie launch U.S. Steel - does the name Carnegie ring a bell? Basically, this estate hasn’t been on the market for over a century which is all the more reason you should break that old pink piggy bank.

Also Read on LTCL:

If the 50-acre estate, 4,000 feet of waterfront, two off-shore islands, a solarium, formal gardens and an apple orchard, a tennis court, an 1800-foot-long driveway, and a 75-foot-long heated pool has your name written all over it, all we ask is you invite us at LTCL and all of our readers to your first house-warming party. Mr. F(ans)

When I heard that “Arrested Development” would be returning for a new season on Netflix, I nearly blue myself with excitement. I’m a relatively newer fan of the show; my current roommate introduced me to the comedy when we still lived in the dorms. However, despite the fact that I’ve only loved it for two years or so, I feel a deep connection with the show’s witty humor and slightly obsessive fan-base. Quotes from the show seem eternally relevant, the zany characters represent exaggerated versions of people one comes across in everyday life, and the show’s subtlety creates an appreciation for the little things.

The excitement surrounding the show’s comeback has been huge and widespread. A promotional “Bluth’s Banana Stand” has been popping up for short stays in major tourist locations, such as London and New York City, and attracting fans worldwide. Netflix created a contest for fans to appear as extras on the show, and received thousands of submissions from hopeful AD-lovers. Internet buzz has been ripe with predictions about the plot, given that it’s set many years later than the original seasons and thus assuming that a lot has changed for the beloved Bluth family since the show’s end in 2006. Have Maeby and George Michael rekindled their cousin love? Has everyone’s favorite analrapist, Tobias Fünke, gotten any work in his new thespian career? Was Lucille able to make the same escape as the loose seal? Have the Bluth siblings (Lindsey, Gob, Buster, and Michael) forgiven their uncle-father for the stress he put them through with his law trouble?

We Have Unlimited Juice? This Party’s Going to be Off the Hook!

Whether you’re planning on binge-watching all the episodes when they release (at once) on Netflix May 26th or spreading out the goodness as long as you can, a celebration is definitely in order. Here are some ideas for throwing the perfect AD release party:

  1. Invite everyone to dress as their favorite character, whether it’s by wearing a banana suit, a “Mr. Manager” tag with their polo shirt and khakis, a hook hand, a $6000 dollar suit (come on!), a letterman jacket with fists held high (Steve Holt!), a red tank top that says “SLUT,” or jean cutoffs with blue face paint.
  2. Serve AD-themed snacks such as corn-balls, chocolate covered bananas, mayon-eggs, hot ham water, and juice.
  3. Hang up a banner that says “Fans Love Arrested Development” (a la “Family Love Michael”).

lucille The Return of Arrested Development... COME ON!

Most Quotable Moments to Remember

  • “Has anyone in this family ever seen a chicken?”
  • “Marry me!”
  • “…Her?”
  • “Daddy horny, Michael.”
  • “Illusions, Michael. Tricks are something a whore does for money!”
  • “Say goodbye to THESE!”
  • “Steve Holt!”
  • “There are dozens of us! Dozens!”
  • “I understand more than you’ll… never know.”
  • “You can always tell a Milford man…”
  • “And that’s why you always leave a note.”
  • “Dead Dove. Do not eat.”
  • “Annyong!”
  • “I guess you could say I’m… buy-curious.”
  • “For British eyes only.”
  • “It’s a FIRE… sale!”

There are so many more great moments and jokes in the show that it’s impossible to list them all. What are your favorite Arrested Development moments? Let me know in the comments! As for me… my excitement for the release is as plain as the nose on Ann’s face. May 26th, come sooner!

By Karl Hughes, Director of News, Uloop.com

One of my favorite parts about my work with Uloop is getting to meet and learn about inspiring young students, and Nnamdi’s (pronounced Nawm-dee) story is one of the most incredible I’ve heard in a while. After his family moved to the United States from their hometown of Onitsha, Nigeria, Nnamdi’s parents worked extremely hard just to get by.

Their efforts and encouragement showed him that anything is possible, and after playing NCAA Division I football for Utah State, being named to the Lowe’s Senior CLASS award in 2009, tutoring his fellow athletes, heading the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and being chosen for Tylenol’s Future Care Scholarship in 2012, With plans to complete his doctorate in medicine in 2016, Nnamdi has surely proven himself to be a great model for future students.

While researching past winners of the Tylenol Future Care Scholarship, which Nnamdi received last year, I had the opportunity to ask Nnamdi some questions, and hear more about his story last week. You can also see a video of Nnamdi talking about his experience here.

Who in your life has inspired you to keep pursuing your goals? Do you have specific friends or family members that pushed or encouraged you to higher education?

That’s easy – my parents are my biggest advocates. When we moved to the United States from Nigeria in ’99, we had nothing. They worked multiple minimum wage jobs and managed to provide for us. All they asked was that we take our education seriously and advantage of the opportunities we had available to us.

I have 4 other siblings and 2 of them have graduated from college. One is a junior in college and the other will be starting college this fall. I think that if you were to ask each of us, we’ll all say that our drives have been fueled partly by our individual goals as well as our parents’ dedication and hard work to making sure that we succeed.

How did you choose your college? What factors influenced your decision?

I was a student-athlete – so I was motivated tremendously by scholarship opportunities. I chose to go to Utah State because of the proximity to home. I was 17 years old so I didn’t want to be on the other side of the country.

Tell me about when you first realized you wanted to pursue a medical profession.

I can think of an experience I had as a kid growing up in Nigeria that piqued my interest in healthcare. I had an injury and was pretty much told that I couldn’t see a doctor because there weren’t any doctors available. That struck a chord in me as a 10-year old, but I don’t think it really resonated until I broke my leg playing football in college. I had the privilege of a great medical team surrounding me that cared for me. When I got better, I got to work with those individuals so I really got a look into medicine as both a physician and a patient.

If you could have your dream job, what would you do?

I don’t think anyone actually gets paid to go to as many basketball and football games as possible do they? If I could manage that, I would be a sports junkie. My life would consist of working out and going to as many games as possible.

However, I don’t think that could beat being a team physician for the Green Bay Packers!

Do you have a favorite moment in college yet? Has anything stood out to you as especially awesome or fun?

So many good memories and moments. I remember my first collegiate catch in a football game [it was one-handed by the way]. I remember staying up late to study for Organic Chemistry exams with my study group, the road trips, the stadiums, the games, my teammates. It’s hard to pick one favorite moment.

I guess my one most favorite would be when I got the call informing me of my acceptance to medical school. I remember it vividly: I jumped up in the air and my hand touched the ceiling and my colleagues were just as excited as I was because they knew what had just happened. It was a phenomenal day.

What advice would you give to a High Schooler or new college student looking to pursue a profession like yours?

I think the most important thing is to allow yourself to be intrigued.

I had the best Anatomy teacher in high school in Mr. Chandler and I was always so eager to learn something new each and every day. My intrigue grew into a fascination and it continued to develop in college. As a freshman on campus, I hardly knew my left from my right. You’re in a totally different environment, away from family, and you’re expected to be able to manage things on your own. I felt overwhelmed within the first 3 weeks of college and I found myself calling my mom for reassurance.

There will be times in college when you feel like the whole world is on top of you. It’s important to have a great support system along the way – people that encourage you and people that you can talk to when things get a little difficult.

Nnamdi Gwacham was one of the 2012 winners of Tylenol’s Future Care Scholarship, and they’re taking applications for 2013 now through June 15th. $250,000 will be divided up among forty students pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. Apply today.

1990′s Fashion

That’s right. “Freaks & Geeks” is popular on Netflix, Gwyneth Paltrow was voted People’s Most Beautiful Person, and Blink 182 is back together. This resurgence in the popularity of 1990′s staples can only mean one thing: grunge fashion! While it is shocking that nineties style is now considered “vintage,” the promise of flannels, jelly sandals, and high-waisted jeans is too exciting to ignore. Check out these trends from about twenty years ago (holy cow!) that are making a comeback.

Gwen Stefani rocked the pale pink during her No Doubt days. Now one of fashion’s leading ladies, Kelly Osborne, is sporting lilac locks.

Overalls

Winona Ryder had it all back in the 1990s: Johnny Depp, leading roles in blockbuster movies like “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands,” and most importantly a snazzy pair of overalls. Now, Elsie Larson from the popular blog “A Beautiful Mess” shows off her modern day overalls style!

Grungy Layers

In “My So-Called Life,” Claire Danes’s sweet layered style landed her the sexy Jared Leto… and now the same style was recently featured in Yves Saint Laurent’s spring runway look.

Teenage Leo (who are we kidding… the best Leo!) made this style famous in the 1996 Baz Luhrmann adaptation of “Romeo + Juliet.” Nowadays, internet icon Rachael Finley/Anderson (wife of Blake Anderson of “Workaholics” fame), also known by followers as Steak, is rocking the sweet style formerly donned by grandpas on Hawaiian vacations.

Are you a gamer?

Seeing video gamers as unemployed nerds who live in their parents’ basements and play obsessively till dawn, surrounded by their favorite Star Wars action figures may no longer be valid. But guys, we all know that video games are not only about having fun. Many experts in the game industry discuss there are various benefits to people playing video games, and here are only few of them:

2207748365 f851029338 The Benefits of Playing Video Games

Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Playing video games encourages finding creative solutions and adaptations to particular situations that we encounter in the game, which we can later apply to our real lives. Even the games specifically designed to be played by children involve figuring out how to do things different and better and finding ways they can win the game. The virtual reality games make this fresh thinking even more powerful with their 3-dimensional effect. When transferred into our everyday lives these skills learned through video games can bring surprisingly positive effects for individual people, as well as communities and the society as a whole.

Learn how to collaborate better.

The development of the Internet and all the new technology have made gaming worldwide cheap and easy, so now every true gamer has had the experience of forming alliances in multiplayer games, properly managing group resources, working together with others toward a common goal – these are just the skills we need in our real lives in order to be successful.

They give us the opportunity of experiencing completely new roles.

Each game has a specifically designed space that the player should interact with in order to solve problems and reflect on the scenario. In this situation we experience the environment in new, different ways and respond accordingly, and both, our real and imagined social identities and interactions are in play.

Games show who the real winners and losers are.

Sadly, we live in a world where no real stimulating competition happens, where every kid that participates in the event gets a ribbon, and their mature supposed-to-be role models tell them they’ve been great when they actually haven’t, which leads to a whole group of other problems. In video games these rules don’t apply – here, there are clear winners and losers. And when we win the game we have even more respect for the people against whom we’ve competed, without getting arrogant and bragging about it. Losing the game, on the other side, teaches you to lose with authority, not whine or blame others for the defeat.

Playing games makes players happy.

This may seem like unimportant or obvious, but this happiness circles all back to the smartness argument. We are happy when playing games because we’ve chosen them for ourselves, and we are willing to give all that hard work and achieve mastery. Working toward mastering stimulates us to go past our own limitations, learn how to be better and smarter.
It appears playing games is not that bad, so next time you spend hours on your favorite video game don’t feel they’ve been wasted, but consider the game as a brain food.

Are you preparing for a getaway this summer vacation? Whether you’re planning on stamping your passport overseas or staying in the states, the European style is one that you can accomplish anywhere! If you are planning on vacationing on the beaches of Italy or exploring the city of London, you’ll certainly want to check out these trends so you don’t look and feel too much like an American tourist. And even if you aren’t flying to another continent – European fashion is so chic you can wear it anywhere!

Embrace the Structured London Look

Some of the most posh models and celebrities come from the U.K. (ie. Victoria Beckham and Harry Styles – hot!) There is no reason why you can’t embrace that same structured London look. British style is all about clean lines and fashion-forward pieces. When embracing an English look for the summer, try a pair of high waist shorts or an A-line skirt with a light, short-sleeve blouse. Choose materials that aren’t heavy. When the sun goes down at night, opt for a blazer in a bright color with cropped sleeves. Rock a pair of heels, some huge shades, and a big headband to embrace the chic and royally fashionable style.

Rock a Light, Floral, Look Inspired by the Italians

Italian style is impeccable in the summer months. The clothes are filled with beautiful, bright colors and floral prints. Most of the materials are light, like a cotton or linen. Opt for a tunic dress in white or beige, with a floral design or a pretty, high-waist maxi dress. Keep your shoes simple, with a pair of strappy flat sandals. Also, don’t fear big, exuberant, jewelry…the Europeans take pride in their accessories and are fearless in their style!

Look jolie in Parisian Fashion

If you aren’t fluent in French, “jolie” translates as pretty! Parisians are known for rocking a confident, natural look without too much fuss. They don’t go overboard in accessories and flair, and they look effortlessly chic and confident. For a summer look inspired by the stylish Parisians, go for an all-white look. Pick a pair of white pants that hit right at the ankle, and pair it with a light, off-white sweater. This bright look will appear fresh in the warmer months and it’s a crisp, clean outfit to pull off no matter where you are in the world.

No matter, where you’re heading this summer, it’s easy to embrace the style of the Europeans. Hanging out on the beach? Walk the boardwalk in an Italian-inspired dress. Spending the summer interning in the city? Look structured in a proper English look. And if you’re actually vacationing in Europe, these tips should keep you from the biggest fashion faux pas – looking like a tourist!

We’ve all seen the popular online meme, “Overly Attached Girlfriend.” While most of the time you probably laugh at the jokes you see online, perhaps a few of these strike too close to home. Are you an OAG? We surveyed 65 real college-aged respondents to see how common it is to be an overly attached partner in the college dating scene. The results may surprise you!

Creepy Curiosity

Regarding sneaking into a significant other’s Facebook messages, text archives, or other methods of private communication, the results were shocking. 58% of people who took the survey admitted to occasionally breaching their partner’s privacy in this manner, and 9.5% admitted to doing it often. Another 9.5% confess to having done this type of creeping in past relationships. 8% of the people in the surveyed group have never done this type of snooping into their partner’s business, but they have considered it. The final 15% who took the survey stuck to the assertion that they have never crept, nor considered creeping, into their boyfriend or girlfriend’s messages.

Feeling Text-y

The results regarding their partner’s swiftness in responding to text messages were less surprising. When asked “How quickly do you expect your significant other to respond to your texts or calls before you grow frustrated or suspicious?” the answers were as follows:

  • Right away: 2%
  • Within 10 minutes: 8%
  • Within half an hour: 10%
  • Within the hour: 26%
  • The same day: 40%
  • If they don’t answer, it won’t bother me: 14%

Friendly Fire

When he saw the question on the survey, LTCL founder Alex Cruz responded, “Ah, the old opposite-sex friends question.” Of course, his response is to be expected; discomfort about a close friendship with somebody who could potentially be a threat to the relationship is a classic issue when it comes to relationships. Only 14% people out of the survey group responded that they’re never jealous of their SO’s opposite-sex friends. Another 14% claimed that they’re very rarely jealous. A whopping 54% of people said that if their boyfriend or girlfriend paid specific attention to a friend, they’d become suspicious or jealous; another 15% indicated that they are uncomfortable in regards to a specific few of their SO’s friends. Finally, 11% of the survey group answered that they are jealous often, or even all the time.

Time for a Checkup

Attachment sometimes lasts beyond the duration of one’s relationship. Thanks to social networking, it’s easy to keep tabs on what an ex has been up to, who they’re dating, and if they are still fawning over you. When asked about the frequency of one’s “check-ups” on their former significant others, 37% of respondents answered that they do it every couple of months. 18.5% check more than once a month, 9% check once per year, and the remaining 35.5% claim that they’ve never lurked an ex’s social networks.

Also on LTCL:

History Lesson

Nearly 40% of people who took the survey don’t believe knowing a significant other’s romantic past is essential, whereas more than 60% deem this knowledge to be extremely important.

Knowledge is Key

In every sitcom, the same plot is played out: a key character forgets an important date (e.g. an anniversary) and has to jump through hoops to right the wrong of their bad memory. We asked what specific details that a person expects their partner to remember, and received these results: (Participants were allowed to select multiple answers)

  • Favorite flower: 29%
  • Favorite color: 38%
  • Favorite holiday: 20%
  • Favorite food: 49%
  • Birthday: 100% of people who took the survey believed this to be vital
  • Half birthday: 2%
  • Your clothing sizes: 18%
  • Monthly anniversary: 12%
  • Yearly anniversary: 86%

In the end…

So, what do you make of these results? Are there more overly attached partners in the dating scene than we let ourselves believe, or is the OAG meme simply an exaggeration of the things we all do and feel in relationships?
