Here are 3 reasons why college students are more sexually active:
1. Nature
As a students between the ages of 18-26 your body is telling you to reproduce. Simple as that. We are turning into young adults wired to keep the species alive. We are, by nature, at our prime mating age and society tends to lend a helping hand by the establishing norms of causal sexual relations. According to Men’s Health, men are at their prime during their 20′s and women more so around their 30′s. I have trouble believing the later. Regardless, the amount of sex college students are having today is greater than ever. Some choose to do it more than others.
2. Freedom
Another reason why we are boinking more is because we are finally FREE. Living under a cock-block prison for 18 years was rough. Now we have the ability to have our significant other (or hookup) spend the night whenever we want. The access of freedom also introduces drugs and large amounts of alcohol (AKA Liquid Courage) never before seen in high school, and more unsupervised parties. For those of you who had parents who did’t care in high school, hope you were able to develop a decent moral compass.
3. Influence
Two names: Kim Kardashian, and Paris Hilton. How famous would either of these talentless women be if it wasn’t for their sex tape? Throw Pam Anderson in that mix… Exactly. You know who they are because of media’s idealization of their lifestyle. I’m sure there are other rich women out there who don’t have a reality TV show or their own fragrance in Macy’s. Young girls wish to be them, and young guys wish for a supporting roll for their next movie… Clearly the list of media influence in sexuality could go on.
Your influenced friends are probably sexually active. Whether you agree or not, this shape your outlook towards sex. Having a long list of ben-there’s isn’t necessarily bad. Being a virgin by the time you graduate college isn’t either–props for your patience.
What are we to do? We can resist nature, opportunity and influence or give in. Is it no wonder why so many give in?
I think the more realistic question is how much rather than ‘yes or no’. Go with the flow and lead yourself to stardom in an episode of Teen Moms 3. On the other hand, making your own judgement on when to have fun and when to say no can save you face. Guys worth settling down with won’t take a girl they consider a slut seriously; and guys, no girl is gong to be impressed when she finds out you can spell her name with your STD collection.
It comes down to your own situation. Too much of anything good can still be bad. Water drownds 1.2 million people annually. You have to spoon feed yourself and choose your partners wisely.
